The pros and cons of print on demand

Print on demand sites can be used to build a business based on a dropshipping model—where the products and shipping are all handled by a third party. It’s one of the most accessible ways to source products or start an online store, but you should know the perks and limitations before you dive in.

Pros

  • Create products quickly: Once you have the design, you can create the product and put it up for sale in minutes.
  • Shipping is taken care of: Shipping and fulfillment out of your hands and in your supplier’s. After the sale, you’re just responsible for customer service.
  • Low investment, lower risk: Since you’re not physically holding any inventory, it’s easier to add or remove products, test ideas, or pivot your approach.

Cons

  • Lower margins: Naturally, your costs per item will be higher than if you buy in bulk. On-demand products may yield thinner profits, depending on how you price them and acquire customers.
  • Less control over shipping: Shipping costs can get complicated as it often varies for different products. Your options may also be limited if you want to create a standout unboxing experience.
  • Limited customisation: Your ability to customise products depends on the vendor and the product. You’ll have to weigh base costs, customisation options, printing techniques, and available sizes when deciding on which products to customise.

Where I will struggle is with the design of the images for POD shirts and accessories. I have a million ideas and can get those stacked up high, but to actually design them I fall flat on my face. I would hire someone to do this in a heartbeat.

Designing products when you’re not a designer

It goes without saying that design plays a crucial role in creating successful print-on-demand products. But you don’t need to be a full-time designer to source original designs. There are many ways to commission or produce your own designs, as long as you understand a few key concepts that will help you work effectively with designers.

First, we need to talk about preparing your print file. When working with designers, you should specify that your design is for printing. This tells them that it should ideally be 300 digital pixels per inch (DPI or PPI), have a transparent background, and other nuances of designing for print vs. web.

Note that print file specifications will change depending on the printer and printing technique used. When in doubt, send the designer the print specs for the specific product and any printing guidelines so they understand the full context.

The designs you upload should be large enough for the printing area of the actual product, or larger—resizing a smaller image to make it bigger will likely result in a loss of quality. If you don’t have access to Photoshop, you can use Pixlr (free), or one of these photo editing tools.

Designing your print-on-demand shirts

When it comes to creating the actual visual design for your shirts, there are a few avenues you can take. Each option has its own level of difficulty—and there are even options if you don’t consider yourself artistic or design-savvy.

Create it yourself

For the creative type, designing your own shirt graphics is a great way to go. You might already be an artist or graphic designer with a particular design in mind. Or you might want to create print-on-demand products featuring your brand’s logo and other visual identity. You can use print-on-demand services to choose which types of shirts you want to print your designs on, and how you’d like them printed.

Buy design templates

If you want to do it yourself but need some guidance, you can use online t-shirt templates and mockups to walk you through the design process. Check places like DesigniousTshirt Factory, and Creative Market for templates and design elements you can incorporate into your products.

Hire someone

For those who don’t want to or can’t create their own print-on-demand shirt designs, outsourcing is an excellent option. You can find talented designers with the skills to create a unique design for you to put on your shirts.

There are a lot of talented designers, so you should be able to find someone to bring your ideas to life. The tricky part is figuring out what you want to design in the first place.

Where to find design ideas and designers

In the best case scenario, you’re a designer or know one you can work well with. But don’t be discouraged if you don’t have immediate access to design talent. That’s what outsourcing is for.

You can find designers to work with on Behance99 Designs, or other freelance sites who can produce usable designs as long as you provide clear instructions. Here’s how you can add clarity and context for a design project:

  • Share insight into your audience. Tell them what it’s for and who your audience is. Showing them your website, if you have one, can also help.
  • Clearly explain what you want. Use your initial pitch and subsequent revisions (you should get at least 1 or 2) to over-communicate what you’re looking for and the guidelines to follow, and try to provide concrete feedback every step of the way.
  • Provide examples for inspiration. Give them a reference to base the design on or point to past work that you liked.

This will depend on your target audience for the product, but you can find design inspiration on:

You can look for content, messaging, or styles that already resonate with your target audience to brainstorm ideas worth pursuing. Just be sure you’re not infringing on anyone else’s work.

Social media is also a great place to litmus test your ideas. If you’re looking to turn the internet into your focus group, try the following:

  • Post to your personal network on Facebook or to groups
  • Use Instagram’s Poll and Question stickers to solicit feedback
  • Share a rough version of your design idea with a relevant subreddit

How to sell print-on-demand t-shirts

The first step to take when you want to sell print-on-demand shirts is identifying your niche. When you choose a niche market, you know who your target customers are and you can appeal to their specific wants and needs. Find shirts and printers who have the quality of products you need to please your customers—you might choose one of the shirt printers from the list above.

Once you have your niche, your design, and your printer, you’ll want to validate your ideas to make sure there’s demand and opportunity in the market. Build an online store and start running some low-budget ad campaigns to see what works and what doesn’t. One of the greatest advantages of a print-on-demand shirt business is its flexibility. You can launch and test new designs at any time without making a massive investment in new inventory.

After you’ve identified your top-selling shirt designs, you can expand your print-on-demand business to include other types of products (like print-on-demand books) as well. The sky’s the limit!

Heres My Advice For Marketing Your Pint on Demand Business

1 Always order samples

Quality assurance is essential when you’re using print-on-demand services to sell online. It’s always possible that something gets lost in translation from the design you see on your screen to your printed product. But you can just reach out to your vendor’s customer support for advice on how to fix any issues.

You want to ensure your physical product looks and feels as you intended, and the best way to do that is to be your own customer so you can experience first-hand what it’s like to receive your products. Some services, like Printful, even offer a sample discount of up to 20% off or free shipping, so be sure to take advantage of that if it’s available.

Beyond ensuring product quality, samples are also good to have on hand for taking your own product photos for your website and social media profiles.

2 Create mockups that show off your products

While models can help you snap compelling photos of your products, mockups are also an effective alternative and will be a prominent part of your product pages.

Many print-on-demand services can help you create your own mockups, showing your products on a person or as a flat lay. But there are other services and plenty of free mockup templates that can also bring your products to life.

These mockups are what will sell your products to customers, so it can literally pay to go the extra mile. PlaceIt is an easy-to-use mockup generator that lets you create photo and video mockups for $8 each. Or, if you know the basics of Photoshop or other photo editing tools, you can browse Mockup World or Behance for templates.

Placeit is one of my top picks for mockups and paying that little upfront will help you get better images that will in turn sell your products.

3 Focus on a niche to make marketing easier

Marketing is what ultimately determines the success of your business. But if you’re targeting everyone, you’re not really marketing to anyone. That’s why focus is so important, regardless of the tactics you employ.

Having a clearly defined audience (e.g. dog owners) can actually help you create products that are in demand, lower the costs to acquire customers, and maximize your potential profits because your targeting decisions will be that much more precise.

Better yet, if you can build an audience of your own through marketing, you can create a permanent asset for your business even if your products change.

There are countless possibilities for marketing, but here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Start an Instagram account and create/curate content for your target audience. Get followers, use what hashtags get the most likes, and build relationships among your prospective customers.
  • Run Facebook ads targeting the interests of your target customers. You can also use Facebook ads to test out your designs for as little as $10 to see which ones resonate with your audience.
  • Collect emails from visitors so you can continue to market to them for free.
  • Get your products into the hands of influencers who can contribute some of their clout and help you make sales.

Growing an audience of your ideal customers is a must for building a long-term business, print-on-demand or otherwise.

4 Be strategic about shipping

Even when you’re not shipping products yourself, shipping still offers some complexity in the form of shipping times and costs, and setting the right expectations with customers.

You’ll want to be sure that you’re accounting for printing times when it comes to shipping. Whatever the shipping times are, be sure to add anywhere from 2 to 4 days for production, or more depending on the product.

Always be upfront about shipping times or you’ll wind up with a support inbox full of shipping questions. Outline what to expect on your FAQ page or consider creating a separate Shipping page to explain shipping to customers.

If you can, try to partially or fully absorb your shipping costs into your retail price. Year after year, studies show that surprise shipping costs added at checkout can deter customers from buying. On top of that, free shipping bolsters a number of your other marketing efforts:

  • Free shipping is a great sales sweetener, even if you can only offer it for specific regions, and provides customers with one more incentive to buy.
  • Conditional free shipping (e.g. “Get free shipping when you spend $30 or more”) encourages customers to add more to their cart to reach the threshold and usually helps you achieve a better total shipping rate by shipping everything together.
  • You can use free shipping to justify longer wait times. Many consumers will wait a bit longer for an order if they know it will save them money on shipping.

Design, test, sell, and grow

As you can see, a print-on-demand business can be a profitable online business idea. The available services offer an accessible source of inventory for new entrepreneurs or for anyone who just wants to test an idea before they invest in it.

If one of your ideas pans out and you start to generate a meaningful number of sales, you can always graduate from using a print on demand site to holding your own inventory or continue to use these services while finding new ways to grow your audience. The choice is yours.

How To Market Your Dropshipping Store

How To Market Your Dropshipping Store

How to be a successful dropshipper

One of my fave concepts for being quick to market is dropshipping products. Taking an idea I have during the week and then on the weekend building out a test store and firing ads at the store to see if my midweek idea is worth diving deeper into.

Learn How To Dropship

Inspired and ready to become an ecommerce entrepreneur yourself? Here are six key elements you’ll want to master to become a successful dropshipper.

1. Add value

Having a solid plan for how you can add value for your customers is the most crucial success factor. This is important for all businesses, but much more so in the world of dropshipping, where you’ll be competing with legions of other “me too” shops carrying similar products.

With dropshipping, it’s easy to think you’re selling customers a product. But successful small merchants understand that it’s not only the product they offer—they’re selling insights, information, and solutions. You think you’re an ecommerce merchant, but you’re also in the information business.

So how are you going to add value and help solve problems for your customers? If you’re unsure, spend some time reading about dropshipping niches to understand the best ones in depth. If you’re struggling to answer this question for a given niche, you may want to consider picking a different market.

If you’re not able to add value through quality information and guidance, the only thing you’re left to compete on is pricing. While this has been a successful strategy for Walmart, it’s not going to help you build a successful dropshipping business.

2 Specialise

Almost every successful dropshipping store we encounter has one thing in common: it specialises in a certain product or niche. The more that stores specialise, the more successful they tend to be.

You don’t want to just sell backpacks. You want to sell backpacks designed for around-the-world travellers obsessed with lightweight gear. You don’t want to just sell security camera equipment. You want to focus on security systems for gas stations.

Many think narrowing their focus limits their potential customer base and will cost them sales. Just the opposite is true. Specialising allows you to communicate more effectively with your customers, stand out more easily from the competition, and compete against a smaller field. Specialising is rarely a bad move to make in a dropshipping venture.

If you’re launching a store in a new niche you probably won’t know what segment of your customers to focus on, and that’s OK. But as you gain experience with your customers you should identify the segment that’s the most profitable and that allows you to add the most value. Then, try positioning your business to focus exclusively on those customers’ needs and problems. You’ll be amazed at how your conversion rates skyrocket, even if you’re charging a premium price.

Remember: if everyone is your customer, then no one is. Specialisation makes it easier to differentiate yourself, charge a premium price, and concentrate your marketing efforts more effectively.

Building email lists early on helps you get a more controllable revenue stream.

3 Focus on marketing and SEO

Coming in a close second to adding value as a key success factor is being able to drive traffic to your new site. The #1 problem and frustration new ecommerce merchants face is a lack of traffic to their websites. Too many merchants slave away for months on the perfect site only to launch it to a world that has no idea it exists.

SEO is crucial for increasing website traffic, organic traffic is the most important traffic source for a brand. These are people who found you in Google search and gave you a vote of confidence by clicking and visiting your site.

Marketing and driving traffic are absolutely essential to the success of your business and are difficult to outsource well, especially if you have a small budget and are bootstrapping your business. You need to take the personal initiative to develop your own SEO, marketing, outreach, and guest-posting skills.

This is particularly crucial during the first six to 12 months, when no one knows who you are. Following your site launch, you need to dedicate at least 75% of your time on marketing, SEO, and traffic generation for at least four to six months—that’s right, four to six months. Once you’ve established a solid marketing foundation, you can scale back and coast a bit on the work you put in. But early on, it’s impossible to place too much emphasis on marketing.

If you’re not a marketing or SEO expert yet and don’t know the difference between pages and posts, the following resources and blogs are a great way to get started:

SEO resources

  • Ahrefs. One of the most popular SEO communities online. beginner’s guide to SEO is a particularly great resource for those starting out.

  • EcommerceFuel. Tips from an active ecommerce entrepreneur on how to found, grow, and market online stores. Written specifically for individual store owners and smaller stores.

4 Offer outstanding service

The Internet has always been a fairly transparent place, but the recent rise of social media has made your business reputation even more important to your success online. If you don’t treat your customers well, they’ll often let the entire world know—including many potential customers.

The biggest customer service risk for dropshipping merchants is having tunnel vision on per-order profits and losses when fulfillment issues go awry. As discussed in our Amazon dropshipping guide, it’s critical to accept that dropshipping can get messy, that you’ll be paying to clean up some messes, and that you shouldn’t always try to pass those messes on to your customer. If you aren’t occasionally losing money on individual orders to make customers happy, you’re probably not providing very good service.

Having happy customers is the best form of marketing. As is true in all businesses, it’s much easier to make a sale to a satisfied customer than to try to convince a new prospect to buy. If you treat your customers exceptionally well, they’re likely to spread the word and refer others your way. With top-notch service, you can build a business where repeat customers generate much of your revenue.

Making customer service a priority sets your dropshipping business up for success, so ensure it’s a priority from the outset.

5 Have a long-term perspective

Building a dropshipping business is like building anything else of value: it takes a significant level of commitment and investment over time. Yet for some reason people assume they can build a passive six-figure income with dropshipping after a few months of part-time effort. That’s just not the way it works.

It will realistically take at least a year to build a business that generates an average full-time income. If you want to see what I sold in 2020 to get an idea and kickstart your store read my 2020 dropship store insights.

It’s also important to understand that the first few months are the most difficult. You’ll struggle with doubts, run into issues with your website, and likely have an underwhelming website launch that generates zero sales. Understand that this is normal. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither were any successful dropshipping businesses.

If you mentally prepare for a challenging beginning and don’t expect to get rich overnight, you’ll be much more likely to stick with your business until it becomes a success.

6 Don’t get hung up on the details

Don’t focus too much on the details. Your company name, logo, theme, or email marketing service aren’t going to determine your success.

What makes a business successful are the things we just talked about: adding value, marketing, outstanding customer service, specialising, and a long-term commitment. Still, new merchants will spend weeks, sometimes months, struggling to make a decision between two shopping carts or providers. That’s valuable time better spent developing the core aspects of the business.

Do your research and make an informed decision, but don’t let small decisions paralyze you.

The most important step to successful dropshipping

The most important step—the one that most people never take—is to actually get started building your ecommerce business. This is the hardest thing for most people, usually due to fear and uncertainty.

It’s a common misconception that successful entrepreneurs have a rock-solid certainty about their business at the outset. When you dig a little deeper, you’ll find that most had fears and reservations about how things would turn out. Yet they moved forward with their plan despite these doubts.

If you’re serious about building your own dropshipping business, you’ll need to do the same. Do your research, evaluate your options, and then move forward with that information in spite of your fears and reservations. It’s what entrepreneurs do. Start now.

Build A Side Hustle Kiss The 9 to 5 Goodbye

Working a 9 to 5 desk job has long been the norm, but it doesn’t have to be! I had a great run of working from home fulltime, working for a company while running a side business and then various splits of the above. As long as you can manage your time you can do it as well.

82% of people who work from home have lower stress levels because they’re able to control their environment to suit their personal needs.

Imagine being able to run your business empire from your couch in your favourite power suit (your pajamas, obviously).

Or maybe you just want to make some cash on the side ― we can help with that too!

Become a Social Media Influencer

Over 80% of internet users are on social media, and big brands need influencers to help them reach this massive market.

If you’re able to create quality content for social media and you’re willing to put time into engaging with your community, you’d be a perfect influencer!

And you don’t even need millions of followers ― there’s a growing demand for micro-influencers (influencers with less than 10 000 followers).

Companies want to work with micro-influencers because their smaller audiences trust them and are more easily influenced by them.

To become an influencer your social media needs to convey a clear personal brand.

Make sure you understand your audience and interact with them regularly ― this way you’ll know what they’re willing to buy.

When your Instagram is looking crisp and your audience is fully engaged, approach companies that suit your brand and offer your services as an influencer.

As your following grows, brands will start approaching you.

Be cautious about who you choose to promote ― your followers trust you to be honest.

Pros:

  • Flexible working hours and location
  • Loads of freebies

Cons:

  • Lack of job security
  • You have to maintain your integrity

Dropshipping Business Model

Running an ecommerce store using dropship is a low-effort way to make money online.

This ecommerce business model has very little startup and overhead costs because you aren’t producing, storing, or shipping the products yourself.

Here’s how it works:

  • You design an online store where you sell products
  • When you receive an order, you forward it to your supplier
  • The supplier ships the product to the customer

You charge customers a retail price for the product, while your supplier charges a wholesale price.

So, if your customer pays you $10 for a product and you forward their order to your supplier who charges you $9 to fulfill the order, you’ll get a profit of $1.

Sounds easy right?

Well, it is!

Besides running and marketing the products on your online store, dropshipping requires very little effort from you.

Pros:

  • Low startup and overhead costs
  • You can automate the process

Cons:

  • No control over the quality of products
  • Low-profit margins

Start Affiliate Marketing

This is a good option for someone who already has a big social media following or a large, engaged email list.

You advertise a product and recommend it to your audience who then purchases it using your affiliate link.

To be a good affiliate marketer, it’s important that you actually believe in the product you’re pushing or your link will be left untouched.

When your link is used for a purchase, you get a commission!

If you’re feeling ready to start affiliate marketing, why not market something that you use everyday? In most cases the website of the products that you love should have a footer link to a partner or affiliate option. You sign up and start promoting them for commission and everyone wins.

I really enjoy wearing Nike footwear and since I enjoy it Ive built an entire affiliate niche site around Nike shoes, Ive added my affiliate links and create content around the shoe styles that I like wearing. The site isnt a huge earner for me but its consistent commission from a brand I like their products and the kicker (get it) is that I can create content for this with ease.

Pros:

  • You can start today with most platforms
  • If you become an affiliate, you can earn from 5% to 40% per sale

Cons:

  • Getting your link out there requires constant effort
  • Won’t work unless you’ve got an audience

Find Freelance Work on Fiverr

Fiverr has an average of 50 million transactions every month.

With so many transactions, there are endless opportunities for freelance work!

Fiverr is an online platform where freelance workers can connect with people who need once-off jobs to be completed.

Gigs on Fiverr can be anything from copywriting a sales page to designing a company logo ― but we suggest you start with your strengths and marketable skills.

Try to be specific about what you can do, and don’t oversell your abilities.

To be successful on Fiverr, you need to have social proof in the form of reviews.

So when you’re still a newbie, set low prices and deliver work at a high standard, and the good reviews will start flooding in.

Then it’ll be time to increase your prices and scale your operation.

Pros:

  • Get paid immediately after completing a gig
  • Very scalable

Cons:

  • Fiverr takes a commission when you do a gig
  • It takes a few months of consistent work for things to start taking off

Publish an eBook

It costs nothing to write your own eBook, and there are plenty of options for online publishing.

A popular one is Amazon’s KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing), which allows anyone to publish as many eBooks as they like.

The catch is that, as the author, you only get up to 70% royalties when you make a sale.

If you produce high-quality eBooks regularly, Amazon’s algorithms will make sure your eBooks get lots of hits, so 70% could be more than enough.

But if you’ve already got an audience, sell your eBook from your own website and keep 100% of the profits for yourself!

If you’re wondering what to write about, these are the best-selling eBook categories on Amazon:

  • Religion and spirituality
  • Biographies and memoirs
  • Business and money
  • Self-help
  • Cookbooks, food, and wine

We think it’s best to write books that you actually want to read, then work will become play, and you’ll have your first eBook published in no time.

Pros:

  • Writing an eBook is free
  • If you write about something you enjoy, it won’t feel like work

Cons:

  • You only get up to 70% royalties if you use Amazon KD
  • It’s not a passive income

Start Blogging (Gateway to other $$ Methods)

With blogging, you can make no money, or you can make big money.

Blogging is a great way to make money online in 2021, and there are plenty of great (free) blogging platforms for you to try.

You can blog about almost anything, but the most popular types of blogs in 2021 are:

  • Food blogs
  • Travel blogs
  • Health and fitness blogs
  • Lifestyle blogs
  • Fashion and beauty blogs

Building your audience will take time and dedication (and some knowledge of SEO best practices), but once you’ve done that, you can start using your blog to make money from home.

When you’ve got tons of traffic coming to your blog, you can start selling ads and backlinks or doing some affiliate marketing.

Eventually, your audience might start wanting more, so you can come up with a product or service to sell from your blog.

For example, if your blog is about fitness, you can sell a fitness guide or a consultation to kickstart a client’s fitness journey.

With blogging, the possibilities are almost endless! LEARN HOW HERE

If you’re interested in learning more, check out our guide to starting a profitable blog.

Pros:

  • You can write about your passion
  • Lots of easy-to-use platforms to build your blog on

Cons:

  • Blogging is a lot of work
  • You can’t start making money until you’ve built your audience

Monetize your Gaming with Twitch

I would of never thought about this in my teen years but its real and growing bigger than anyone imagined. I have a friend doing this and he’s smashing his full time salary out the water and now plays games and gets paid. My daughter showed me how she uses Twitch and all she’s doing is watching other people play video games…Im lost why they watch instead of play alongside or play the game themselves. Buy hey whatever works right!

If you’re an amazing gamer, we know a way you can monetize that skill!

With Twitch, you can turn your hobby into a money magnet.

Twitch is an online platform where gamers share their screens, and viewers pay to watch them.

With almost 3 million active viewers per week, streaming on Twitch is a great way to make money from home.

The main way of making money on Twitch is through donations.

But building up a big enough following will earn you Affiliate or Partner status, and you’ll start earning ad revenue.

It doesn’t get any better than earning money by doing something you enjoy.

Pros:

Cons:

Become a YouTuber

This follows on from gaming with Twitch is being on YouTube and if you connect the two channels you could combine two streams of revenue.

We’re sure you’ve heard that you can learn anything on YouTube.

Well, it goes both ways.

You can teach anything on YouTube too.

Beyond sharing your skills, there are so many genres on YouTube that you can create content for.

At the time of writing, the top five YouTube genres are:

  • Commentary
  • Product Reviews
  • How-To’s/Tutorials
  • Top Lists
  • Comedies

Once you have 1000 subscribers, YouTube will start paying you ad revenue.

To get that subscriber count up, always include a strong call-to-action at the end of your videos ― that’s when YouTubers say: “Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and comment if you enjoyed the video”.

You should also film videos longer than 10 minutes, write compelling video titles, and reply to every comment.

You can even use your YouTube Channel as a platform for some of the other ways to make money such as affiliate marketing or selling things online.

Pros:

  • Starting a YouTube channel is free
  • You can reach a massive, worldwide audience

Cons:

  • Editing videos for YouTube takes time
  • YouTube is very competitive

Become an Online Tutor

Talking about niches that are exploding, online tutoring is going through the most rapid growth phase it has ever seen. People can not get enough of online tutors. I sought out a tutor when I was learning Python as I was stuck on one section but after some coaching sessions I managed to come together and learn that skill.

Now that you’ve spent loads of money on your education, you can use it to make loads of money.

Depending on your education and experience, tutoring can be a seriously lucrative way to make money from home.

If you’re good at maths or science (or any other academic subject), show off your grades to attract struggling students.

If you’re fluent in English, you can find some non-English speakers looking for online classes.

It may be useful to list yourself on a tutoring platform such as Tutor.com or Superprof.

Or, if you prefer to work independently (and keep all of your earnings to yourself), post adverts to your local social media groups or even Craigslist.

Tutoring for the TEFL academy is also a great option, but you have to complete some TEFL courses before you can join their team.

Pros:

  • Even though you’re at home, you’ll still get to interact and help people
  • Parents are often willing to pay high prices when it comes to their children’s education

Cons:

  • Tutoring platforms take a cut of your money
  • If you go without a platform, you’ll have to put effort into marketing your offer

Teach an Online Course

This one is close to my heart as I have been teaching in various industries since 2007.

It’s predicted that by 2026, the eLearning market will be valued at $375 billion!

And there are platforms available for everyone!

If you want to host your course for free on your own domain.

If you choose to host your own course, you’ll need to handle the marketing side of things.

You can use our email marketing tools to send people the first module of your online course for free, then they’ll be sure to purchase the rest of it!

Or, if you want to teach short courses and pop them onto a marketplace, you can have a look at Skillshare or Udemy ― but you’ll make a lot less money this way.

Your course content should deliver great value for your students so they leave great reviews, and keep coming back.

Read reviews of similar courses to see what people liked and didn’t like so you can work out what to include or exclude in your course.

You can make your online course from start to finish with our course-creating platform.

Pros:

  • Getting started with systeme.io is free, quick, and easy
  • You can create courses on anything from business coaching to origami

Cons:

  • It takes time to create the content for your course
  • Many course creation platforms take a share of your earnings or require you to pay monthly fees

Final Words

Life’s too short to stay at your desk job!

As you can see, there are lots of ways to make money from home.

Whether it’s a side-hustle or a main-hustle, these tips will help you escape the rat race.

But they definitely work best in conjunction so consider doing 2 or 3 of these for amazing results.

Remember to do your research and be patient with the method you choose.

Profit Margins for Dropshipped Fitness Products

Since COVID there’s been a  fluctuation in the fitness industry with physical coaching, home gyms, and DIY gyms, Kmart now sells weights and workout gear and more retailers are cashing in on the lucrative fitness industry.

I observed trends early on when COVID was rolling out way back in 2019 around lockdown restrictions and personal fitness and started buying up a lot of home gym equipment especially the lighter weight for shipping cost reduction and started targeting women and older men as the demographic.

This worked out for me in the end as fitness equipment became so scarce to buy that profit margins were around 80% for a good 12 months.

Now though with no restrictions and all the extra competition you can expect profit margins between 15-20% conservatively. Please note that you should monitor Google shopping and competitors religiously as pricing fluctuates so much it’s hard to give a static number.

*Tip: I use a Chrome extension called Profit Genie for reviewing Google Shopping it gives me excellent data.

LEARN: Dropshipping Business Model.

Just a quick FAQ before we dive in after a couple of readers submitted comments that they wanted answers to if you can bear with me:

FAQ

Would you recommend that newbies start out with online dropshipping or should they first try selling on Amazon instead? YES I would suggest newbies start dropshipping BEFORE selling on Amazon just to get a sense of the business model, Amazon is not focused on dropshippers and they are quick to ban and not ask questions. Dropshipping will help you get a sense of the business model first.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a drop shipping company? They can help you consolidate your efforts, you could build a store just around the products that the DS company provides. This gets you selling and you have 1 supplier to manage instead of 10. To me thats a really straightforward startup to build.

Have you ever worked with any Australian drop shippers before? If so how did it go for them and what advice would you give to someone thinking about starting out with dropship experience? YES I have. I do consulting and JV partnerships when its in my best interests. The dropshipping businesses I have worked with were able to scale their revenue enough to build an actual ecommerce brand. They learned about the revenue models  that were most lucrative and now are selling in most supermarkets after doubling down on brand. This model does work but it takes time and commitment. This particular company did not see success until year 3 of the business so it was a longer play for them before they sought help to scale.

What is your opinion on shopping cart software like Magento, osCommerce, Bigcommerce, ZenCart, PrestaShop etc.? Honestly I hear this so often I block out the noise, I use Shopify and I use Woocommerce thats all I worry about and anything else is a distraction.
